CURATOR:

In addition to his work as a composer and performer, Dan has been an active curator and concert organizer for over a decade. Beginning with informal student-run concerts while a graduate student at Mills College in the mid '90s, Dan remained in the Bay Area beyond his graduation, forming the presenting organization Living Music through which he produced an influential series of contemporary music concerts at various locations in and around San Francisco. Highlights of the Living Music period which lasted from 1997 to 2001 include the ODC Spring Music Festival, and 9/9/99: Live Experimental Electronic Music.

Also during this time, In 1999, with Miya Masaoka, Pamela Z, Carl Stone and others, Dan co-founded the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, an annual showcase of experimental electronic music from the Bay Area and beyond currently entering it's fourteenth season.

Since re-locating to New York City, Dan has served as guest-curator of Thomas Buckner's Interpretations acclaimed contemporary music series, co-curated with Shem Guibbory, a showcase of performers associated with CalArts at The Kitchen, and produced and curated events in collaboration with Brooklyn's Issue Project Room. In the fall of 2012, Dan founded Musical Ecologies, a monthly symposium on music and sound at the Old Stone House in Park Slope, Brooklyn. A champion of new media, trans-cultural hybrid musics and works rooted in the American Experimental Tradition, Dan continues to explore new contexts for creative musical expression.
